Company: Foothold Technology
Just before the Internet bubble of 2000 burst there were startups popping up everywhere. I got lucky that one of my business partners found our other business partner who had the germ of an idea that we collectively turned into a business. We were inspired to build a company around helping human service agencies serve the people they help more effectively and efficiently.
Put simply, we hope Foothold’s technology, and the support and service around that technology, can help the organizations we serve get the freedom to focus on their mission and eliminate some of the burden of record keeping and reporting.
I would say there are two. The first time I heard that someone was able to help a person in need get the proper medical attention in an emergency because they were able to easily access the person’s record using our software. And, when I heard that someone at one of Foothold’s client agencies had hired someone else based partially on the fact that the applicant listed expertise in our software on their résumé.
Over more than 18 years there have been many challenges, but I don’t think I’ll ever have a more challenging moment than having to let someone go. It may be best for them or necessary for the company, but severing ties with a person who worked hard to contribute to our shared mission never feels like anything other than a challenge.
